Wexham School in Slough is a secondary school with a focus on sport and physical education in addition to academic excellence – which means there are lots of muddy football and rugby kits to be washed on a daily basis!
The school’s sole washing machine was located in the food tech classroom halfway across campus requiring staff to haul laundry back and forwards from the sports block. Coupled with the fact that the machine’s capability was better suited to washing tea towels than large quantities of soiled sports kit, Francis McDermott, Facilities Manager, wanted to find a convenient and fit-for-purpose solution.
"I don’t know a lot about commercial washing machines, so I looked around on Google and then spoke to approximately three companies. Out of all of them, I found JLA to be the most efficient and friendly. Soon, a new JLA 98 washer/dryer stack was installed in the sports block of Wexham School, which meant that staff would be able to keep on top of the laundry with little to no hassle. As the new machines were sited in an area that students pass by, Francis wanted to ensure the equipment would be tamper-proof. He was delighted when the specialists at JLA provided a bespoke solution comprising of a locking cabinet for the machines.
