FAQ's

Can you use a domestic oven in a commercial kitchen?

No. You should use a commercial oven in a professional kitchen for various different reasons.

Commercial ovens are designed for heavy-duty use and have the capacity and capability of cooking large batches of food. JLA commercial ovens are constructed of durable stainless steel and built to last, whilst domestic models are less likely to be durable or as long-lasting.

Professional ovens also have more advanced features, including safety features not available in domestic ovens. They can also reach higher temperatures for faster and more effective cooking.

Do all commercial kitchens need to be vented?

Yes. It is a requirement for all commercial kitchens to have effective ventilation and extraction.
Ventilation helps to maintain a safe, healthy and comfortable environment for staff by preventing grease and contaminants from building up, which can increase the risk of fire and contribute to poor air quality.

Do you need a cooker hood in a commercial kitchen?

Yes. They are a critical piece of safety equipment that remove heat, smoke, steam and emissions, ensuring the kitchen is safe and comfortable for staff. Cooker hoods should also be serviced and maintained regularly, and with JLA Total Care, we’ll take care of everything for one monthly fee.

Should I buy a gas or electric oven?

Both gas and electric ovens provide a high-performance cooking solution for commercial kitchens and have different advantages depending on customer requirements.

Gas ovens offer precise temperature control and usually heat up much faster, which can be beneficial for certain cooking techniques. Electric ovens are slower to heat up, however, they can provide a superior heat distribution and more consistent baking results.

Other factors include the availability of energy sources, especially considering some commercial premises may not have immediate access to gas. Commercial gas ovens are usually more affordable to run in the long term, but may require more maintenance and are considered less environmentally friendly compared to electric models.
