industrial washing machines

Industrial washers such as ours are designed to be durable, powerful and large enough to easily cope with commercial loads.

Industrial washers are designed to thrive in even the most demanding laundry rooms and can turnover high loads at a vast frequency. In fact, some of our largest machines have a capacity of up to 220kgs.

But, which washing machineis right for your business? In this buying guide, we’ll take a look at the options available to you.

Small industrial washers

Let’s start our industrial washer guide by looking at some of the smallest options available to you.

Small barrier washers are designed for laundry rooms that have a limited amount of available space. Installed into a physical wall, this washer serves both a loading and unloading room separately. As a result, it’s the ideal solution for laundry rooms where hygiene is of the utmost importance. For this reason, it’s used in sectors that require reliable hygiene control processes, such as healthcare, care and food production.

However, if you need a washer with a larger capacity and don’t require a barrier washer, then instead consider a larger machine like the JLA 90, which has a capacity of 40kg. This freestanding option has been designed to operate for up to 24 hours a day and will cope with high turnover, bulky items and constant wash cycles.

Large industrial washers

If this kind of capacity just isn’t cutting it, then you may be much better off purchasing a large washing machine, such as a JLA 1100 or a JLA 1800. These machines have a capacity of 110kg and 180kg respectively and can make light work of large volumes of laundry.

Plus, the machines are easily accessible for cleaning and maintenance purposes and have been created to have a capacity for up to a 24-hour operation.

Which washer do I need?

The right industrial washer for your needs will depend on the following factors:

  • The space you have available
  • The number of cycles you need to run per day
  • The capacity you need for each cycle
  • Whether you require a barrier washer or a freestanding washer
  • The hygiene control processes your business needs to have in place

Unsure which washing machine is right for you? Speak to our laundry experts today. Our expert advisers are here to help you find the solution you need at a price that suits you.

Commercial catering equipment in a kitchen

As the cost of living continues to rise, businesses up and down the country are assessing how they can keep a firm grip on their finances. This is particularly the case with catering businesses, who face a colossal rise in energy bills.

Thankfully, the good news is that your business can navigate these challenges, if you plan effectively. To help, here are some top catering finance tips.

Minimise setup costs

If you’re starting a new catering business in the current economic climate, then you need to minimise your initial outlay. This way, you can keep more cash in reserve that can help you counter any rising costs.

For this reason, you should look at our Total Care option. With Total Care, you’ll receive:

  • Market-leading equipment with nothing to pay upfront
  • Installation at no extra cost
  • One simple monthly payment covering servicing, repairs and call-outs
  • Guaranteed local engineer response
  • 24/7 support, 365 days a year
  • Access to My JLA, with essential documents and support in one place

Not only does Total Care allow you to keep your capital in reserve, but it also means that you won’t need to worry about any maintenance costs or any nasty surprises. It’s catering cost effectiveness at its best.

Avoid over-purchasing

Going overboard with purchasing leads to waste that can cost you huge sums of money. By purchasing only the exact amount of each ingredient you require, you can save money and boost your eco credentials.

So, be very precise when it comes to portion sizes and covers. Everything that you purchase should be cooked and then used to fill an order. This means no leftover food in the fridge.

To help with this, keep a detailed log in the kitchen and write down any wastage that occurs throughout the day. Then, review this on a weekly/monthly basis and spot patterns. You may discover you’re continually over-buying the same ingredients.

Make basic menu alterations

Making small changes to your menu can make a big difference. Whether you choose to remove unpopular items or switch to a different (or cheaper) cut of meat, there are a number of ways that your business can cut its costs.

On top of this, you should look at ways that you can reduce waste. For example, rather than throwing out stale bread, consider using it to make the perfect breadcrumbs.

Those are just three ways that you can improve your commercial kitchen cost effectiveness. If you’re interested in discovering more about how Total Care or any of our other options can help further boost catering cost effectiveness, speak to our experts today. Whatever you need, we’ll take care of it.

stackable washing machines

Certain businesses with compact laundry rooms require stackable washer and dryer solutions that fit into smaller spaces.

Here at JLA, we’re experts in laundry. With more than 50 years in the industry, we have the insights and expertise required to develop specialised ‘tower’ combinations that solve the problem of limited square footage.

Our stacked washing machines and tumble dryers can be supplied in washer/dryer and dryer/dryer combinations. In this stacked laundry buying guide, we’ll explain why they’re such a great option.

Why should I consider stacked washing machines and tumble dryers?

Our stacked washing machines and tumble dryers are designed to be just as efficient and cost-effective as our single machines. However, these stacks also fit neatly on top of each other. This means that you receive two pieces of equipment in the space of one.

With our stacked washing machines and tumble dryers, you can maximise profits by adding more capacity to your coin-operated laundry, cope with extra throughput without having to change your existing layout or simply make more space for staff to work in.

What stacked washing machines and tumble dryers are available?

A number of different capacity combinations are available in our range of stacked washing machines and tumble dryers. This means that you can choose a specially designed stacked washer and dryer system to fit your needs – as well as your business layout.

That said, our most popular options are:

  • JLA 16-20 Stack SMART Wash
  • JLA 16-98 Stack SMART Wash
  • JLA 98-98 Washer/Dryer Stack

The best option for you will depend on how many cycles you need to run in a day and the regulations you need to follow. But remember, if you need extra drying capacity, all our stacked systems are also available as dryer-dryer combos.

Need help deciding which stacked washing machines and tumble dryers are right for your business? Get in touch with our laundry experts today. We’re here to help.

Enhancing the laundry room set-up in professional football clubs

  • 16th Apr 2025
Football stadiums and training grounds have numerous challenges in the laundry room. Whether it is balancing tough grass stains and keeping the kits comfortable for players or reducing infection risks whilst maintaining fast turnarounds, there are numerous key considerations.

In a trend that’s affecting hotel and care home owners across the Republic of Ireland, linen providers are increasingly serving notice on their contracts.

These companies are either searching for bigger businesses to deal with, or companies in big cities, aka closer to their own premises. This means dealing with larger quantities of linen servicing in one go, meaning multiple orders aren’t causing complications in logistics, and shorter journeys for the laundered linen. It’s an issue that’s leaving many smaller hotels and care homes high and dry, sometimes with no clean linen at all.

In this expert Q&A, Amanda Cooke, sales and marketing consultant at JLA, explains why bringing laundry back in-house could be the solution.

Amanda, what’s been going on?

Ultimately, these companies are struggling to make deliveries and are now, understandably consolidating their contracts to protect themselves. The knock-on effects for hotels and care homes means some locations are being left without essential laundry support, or fresh linen. We’ve even read about staff having to take laundry home to process, which obviously isn’t compliant or sustainable!

What’s the solution for small-to-medium hotels and care homes?

Probably the single most effective and simple way to combat this challenge is to bring laundry back on site and take charge again. With your own on site laundry system you’re able to take back control – including the quality of your wash. You are likely to lose a bit of space but the benefits can be powerful – including big savings on energy when you use the most up-to-date equipment. Another bonus is that staff aren’t having to stand about counting stock when it comes back from the external laundry provider. Time is saved in terms of waiting for deliveries and staff allocating stock to various linen rooms too.

What solutions does JLA offer?

Many hotels and care homes already trust our cost-saving, energy-efficient laundry systems. One of the biggest benefits is that we offer flexibility with a range of configurations, which take up much less space than you might image.

Overall, clients in these venues are now enjoying lovely fresh linen and towels, which are also lasting longer because of the revolutionary way JLA’s OTEX system cleans them and also manages infection control. OTEX can be added as an optional extra, which increases infection control capabilities and reduces energy consumption.

Could you explain what OTEX is?

JLA’s OTEX system uses a natural disinfection process that kills 99.999% of moulds, yeasts, viruses and bacteria – including coronavirus – at low temperatures. That means you can reduce water, electricity, gas and detergent use, ultimately saving you money on all three while increasing the lifespan of your linen. A win-win all round.

In fact, JLA testing has shown that OTEX cuts hot water use by up to 80%, electricity by up to 60%, and gas by up to 35%, with total water usage down by up to 45%*. With utility bills increasing as they are that’s a potentially huge saving on every wash cycle and a reduction in your carbon footprint.

Doesn’t buying new equipment require huge capital outlay?

Usually bringing your laundry in house can be an expensive investment, even if it will eventually pay for itself. Equally this doesn’t have to mean a large capital outlay.

Total care, JLA’s fully all-inclusive managed service package, is designed around every client’s needs. For a simple monthly fee, you enjoy new laundry room equipment with no upfront costs, free installation and 24/7 support – including servicing, spare parts and repairs. In other words, you get all the benefits of advanced laundry equipment, with world-class maintenance and same-day breakdown support, for one monthly payment.

What else should I bear in mind when I want to bring my laundry back in house?

It’s worth considering the extra labour requirement that will be needed to process the laundry on site. You will find the jobs such as checking the laundry in and out are no longer required mitigating the extra staffing required in the laundry.

I’ve already mentioned space – but thinking about the right configuration for your laundry room will be essential, maximising the right solution in the space you have available.
